Senior Resident Magistrate Court in Chikwawa has on Saturday released on bail two Chinese nationals suspected to have assaulted one of their employees Silaj Maluwa, 37, on suspicion that he  stole fuel at Sinohydro construction company where he works as a machine operator.

The two are Allen Cheng, 37, and Peng Yongqia, 35.

State prosecutor Dalirani Kalanguka asked the court to give the too tough bail conditions considering the grievous harm cause to the claimant and that they might escape the country as they are not citizens of Malawi.

But legal counsel for the suspects Matandika argued that the two are currently not in good health after their experience in the police cells saying they are already struggling to walk hence the need to grant them bail.

Meanwhile, Senior Resident Magistrate Byson Masonga granted the two bail with conditions that they pay K1 million Kwacha each and a surety of K3 million kwacha from two contact persons.

The court  since then adjourned the case to  May 17,2024  after the two denied accusations levelled against them.
