By Shaffie A Mtambo

Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa has kicked off a six-day Training Support Officers (TSOs) Induction training in partnership with Ujamaa Africa (Kenya). The program, which started on January 22, 2025, aims to equip new TSOs with the necessary skills and knowledge to support Ujamaa ETT Champion teachers in their respective districts. The induction training is being held at Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa’s headquarters in Area 47, Lilongwe, Malawi.

The program will introduce participants to the organization’s ETT intervention, operational framework, policies, quality control, administrative procedures, logistics, vision, and mission. This comprehensive training will enable TSOs to effectively monitor, mentor, coach, train, and support Champion teachers. The ultimate goal is to enhance the education sector in Malawi by providing high-quality support to teachers.

The induction training was officially opened by Shanever Chamba, Child Protection Desk Officer from the Ministry of Education, alongside Martin Ndirangu, Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa’s Country Director, and Simpiri, the CSO Director from Ujamaa Nairobi. This collaborative effort demonstrates Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa’s commitment to empowering its TSOs and, in turn, benefiting the education sector in Malawi.

By investing in the capacity of its TSOs, Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa is taking a significant step towards achieving its mission of preventing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Africa. The organization’s evidence-based approach has been recognized as effective by international research institutes, and this training program is a testament to its ongoing efforts to create safer and more equitable communities.
