Democratic Progressive party (DPP) president Peter Mutharika on Sunday extended its firing sword to Director of women Cecilia Chazama who all along has been Mutharika blue eyed lady.

Peter Mutharika has also fired Southern region vice president Kondwani Nankhumwa from his position and replaced him with his loyalist, Dr George Chaponda.

Mutharika has instead appointed him as an advisor to the president.

In a statement, Mutharika quoted section 10 (8) of the DPP Constitution, which he says mandates him to assign members of the NGC to other duties from their elected positions.

This comes two days after Mutharika also assigned DPP Secretary General Grezeder Jeffrey to the position of Vice President for the Central Region, which she is challenging in court.

Mutharika has been quoted by the press warning those questioning his decisions saying: “I am slow to anger but when you cross that line I will fall on you like a tonne of bricks.”

Meanwhile, a court in Lilongwe is on Tuesday expected to hear an application of interlocutory injunction filed by Grezeder Jeffrey on her reassignment by Mutharika to the position of Central Region Vice President of the Party.

Jeffrey has set December 15 and 16 to hold a DPP convention to elect new NGC members in compliance with the court order.

The DPP faction of Mutharika is also expected to meet and set a date for its convention, a development analysts say the wrangle in the opposition DPP is now at its boiling point.

NGC member Ken Msonda has since challenged Mutharika against firing of people who were dully elected during convention. Msonda says only conventions can remove those positions from their office.
