Mighty Wanderers on Saturday notched their first win in this year’s TNM Super League season after beating TN Stars 2-1 at Mpira Stadium in Chiwembe, Blantyre.

Former Masters Security captain Francis Mkonda opened the score sheet for the Lali Lubani boys with a fine header at 40 minutes in the first half after receiving a cross from Isaac Kaliati.

Chiukepo Msowoya scored Nomads’ second goal in the second half before Fabio Kapinde’s consolation with a powerful header, after receiving a cross from Shukuran Afiki.

Afiki had a chance to give the visitors the much needed equaliser in the dying minutes of the match but Wanderers goalkeeper William Thole denied the former Mangochi United player what would have been a brilliant goal from the youthful player.

Speaking after the victory, Wanderers coach Edington Ng’onamo, while admitting that it was a tough game, applauded his charges for a good performance.

“We had a very strong opposition in TN Stars but my team played very well. In the second half, we needed more experienced players to contain the pressure and that’s the reason we managed to maintain the lead after making a few substitutions,” he said.

His counterpart Kondwani Mwalweni accepted defeat but blaimed officiation for some questionable decisions.

He said, ” The boys played according to our instructions and we tried our best to win or at least get a point but luck was not on our side. Officiation was also not good today.”

In another match played on Saturday, a lone goal from Black Alisen was enough to give Moyale Barracks a 1-nil victory over Civil Service United.

In Lilongwe, Silver Strikers recovered from their 1-nil loss to Red Lions last weekend to beat Rumphi United 1-nil at Silver Stadium. Man of the moment Chawanangwa Kaonga scored his first goal for the central bankers in the TNM Super league this season.

Red Lions and Karonga United shared the spoils at Balaka Stadium by drawing 1-all. Moses Nankumba scored for the Zomba-based soldiers while Dan Godfrey scored for Karonga United to give them a vital away point.

With Saturday’s results Red Lions are on top of the log table with four points from two matches.

On Sunday, Blue Eagles will take on Rumphi United at Nankhaka Stadium while Dedza United who won their first game last weekend, hosts Karonga United at Balaka Stadium.

Northern region side Ekwendeni Hammers will face Mafco FC at Mzuzu Stadium and rookies Sable Farming will play host to TN Stars at Mpira Stadium.

In the last match on Sunday, Lilongwe-based soldiers Kamuzu Barracks will host Mighty Tigers at Civo Stadium.
