Woman arrested for tearing banknotes after failed business transaction in Zomba

Police in Zomba have arrested a 38-year-old lady, Sara Phiri for allegedly tearing banknotes due to anger after a failed business transaction.

It is reported that the suspect agreed to buy a bed at K45,000 from Miss Mercy Lawrence, and she gave her K25,000 as a deposit.

Few days later, the seller changed her decision and decided not to sell the bed anymore.



She promised to refund the deposit she got from the suspect.

The suspect was not pleased with the decision and she demanded to be given back K50,000 instead of the deposit of K25,000 which she gave claiming that she had wasted her time waiting for the business.

But the seller refused the demand and gave back the amount she received as deposit.

The suspect was angry that she refused to accept the money and instead she tore it into pieces and threw it back to the seller.

The matter was reported to Zomba police station who conducted an investigation and later on arrested Sara Phiri.

Meanwhile, the suspect is under police custody awaiting to appear before the court to answer the charges of damaging Malawi Currency.

Sara Phiri hails from Suluwati Village, Traditional Authority(T/A) Nkhumba in Phalombe District.
