Work at Changalume Barracks in Zomba

One Thousand houses currently under construction across the country under phase one.

Once completed, the houses will address the accommodation needs faced by our men and women in uniform in Zomba who are forced to reside far from their duty stations and in rented houses. Most of them live in areas like Sadzi, Mponda bwino and Mpunga”

On 16th July, 2022 State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera handed over 15 houses to the Malawi Police Service at Malamia Police Mobile Service Camp in Mangochi district. This was the first lot of over a hundred houses that have been completed and ready for occupation.

President Chakwera during the initial launch of the project back in 2020 described the project as part of the Tonse Alliance administration’s delivery of jobs, envisaging that it will trigger the mobility of capital, the generation of business transactions, and the increase of incomes.

Government launched the construction of 10,000 houses for security institutions across the country in December 2020. The beneficiary institutions are: the Malawi police service, the Malawi Prison services, the Department of Immigration and Citizenship services and the Malawi Defence Force.
