ActionAid Malawi has announced the appointment of Yandura Chipeta as its new Executive Director(ED), effective April 22, 2024.
In a statement, Action Aid Malawi says Chipeta’s appointment follows a comprehensive executive search process that commenced in November 2023.
It says, with over 14 years of experience in international development, Chipeta brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the role.
“Throughout her career, Chipeta has worked extensively on gender responsive public services, economic justice, women’s rights, child rights and protection, public policy analysis, and fundraising.
“Her experience and passion for social justice make her an ideal fit for ActionAid Malawi’s mission to empower marginalized communities,” reads the statement in part.
It adds:As Executive Director, Chipeta will lead ActionAid Malawi’s efforts to promote human rights, gender equality, and sustainable development.
“Her appointment is a significant milestone for the organization, and her expertise and leadership will undoubtedly drive meaningful change in the lives of marginalized communities in Malawi.”
Chipeta holds a Master of Arts Degree in Governance, Development, and Public Policy with Distinction from the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex.
Her studies have equipped her with a deep understanding of the intersection of politics, development, and public policy, and how they interact to achieve socially just sustainable development.
She also holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree from the University of Malawi, obtained in 2009.
