Zimbabwe President jets in the country for bilateral talks

President Emerson Mnangagwa has on Wednesday, 31st May, 2023 arrived in the country via Kamuzu International Airport.

Mnangagwa was welcomed at the airport by President Lazarus Chakwera, government officials, the clergy, traditional chiefs, and members of Tonse Alliance upon his arrival in the afternoon.

Zimbabwe President is in the country for among others to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart, Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi where they will discuss wide range of issues including trade, investment,regional security, and cooperation in various sectors to strengthen the relationship that exists between the two sister nations.



The Zimbabwean President is also expected to visit the Malawi Parliament where he will engage dialogue with Malawian lawmakers, and have interface with the Zimbabweans living in Malawi.

Further, the two leaders are expected to hold a joint visit to the Southern Region of Malawi, particularly the districts of Mangochi, Blantyre, and Thyolo to assess and appreciate the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy, demonstrating solidarity and support in times of natural disaster.

While in the country, Mnangagwa will also visit Auction Floors, and Kamuzu Mausoleum where he is to pay tribute to the Malawi’s first President, late Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

The visit by President Mnangagwa marks significant steps towards fostering regional cooperation, strengthening bilateral relations, and promoting mutual understanding between the two countries.

Upon his arrival, Mnangagwa was presented with a symbolic key as a citizen of Lilongwe City at an event that took place at Civic Offices in the Capital City.
